The Atkins Model 500 might have been the prototype, and sure, they made pretty big elevators back then, but the reverberations of Juan Atkins' music is still being felt today. Responsible for setting off countless parties and spawning many imitators, still Juan Atkins is credited with breathing Soul into the machines, and putting the Funk into every dancers inner robot. A child of the George Clinton and Prince era, Juan, along with Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, spearheaded a revolution in sound that caught the imagination of dancefloors around the world and became known as Techno, while Juan's releases under the names Cybotron and Model 500 are considered corner stones of electronic Dance Music. Whatever you'd like to call it nowadays, there's no denying the original Don Juan of Detroit.
