Moodymann, aka Kenny Dixon Jr., is one of the most enigmatic and charismatic figures that house music ever bred. Despite his used-to-be-rare appearances on stage (live and as a DJ) and his refusal to give interviews or to play the press-and-promo game, KDJ's voice has been amongst the loudest. Blessed with an immaculate way of sampling, especially the early records of this Detroit native took the heritage of Afro-American music and carried it respectful unto the next level. Soul, funk, disco, jazz - you name it! - can be found throughout Moodymann's works. From his 'Tribute (To The Soul We Lost)' ode to Marvin Gaye on KDJ to his 'Silent Introduction' (Planet E) and 'Black Mahogany' albums as well as his recent outings on the r&b-drenched and hip hop-affine Mahogani Music imprint, Moodymann's fingerprint stayed unmistakable.
