Led by the relentless drummer Malcom Catto, The Heliocentrics' have been sampled by Madlib and Yesterdays New Quintet as well as having backed up DJ Shadow and Mulatu Astatke. Enough to rest on their laurels and enjoy some drinks in the sun, you'd think. But as much as they love Helios, a halt is not in sight and they turn traditional Funk on its head with their syncopated drums tying up 60's Psychedelica and Free Jazz into organised chaos. The UK collective's objective lays quite a ways beyond what ordinary listeners know or expect. In an alternative galaxy, where the orbits of Hip-Hop, Funk, Jazz, Psychedelic, Electronic, Avante-Garde and Ethnic music all revolve around "The One" - that's where you might find The Heliocentrics.
