Looking for the perfect beat. It’s a familiar phrase but it aptly describes Mike Stellar’s mission. Without focussing on any particular style, you can hear in his sets an explosive mix of Jazz, Breakbeat, Deep House, Hip Hop, Detroit Techno, Drum’n’ Bass and Dub, not forgetting those lost gems from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Since 1996, Mike has been one the driving forces of the music scene in Portugal, first as a promoter, and then as a DJ caught by that vinyl addiction. After his first – now legendary - , Drum’n’ Bass parties in Lisbon he went on to become a true innovator in the burgeoning Jazz scene. Introducing everyone from Gilles Peterson to King Britt, Koop and Kyoto Jazz Massive to the Lisbon club scene, he spread his brand of music all over Portugal’s clubs and festivals. Nowadays, Mike presents the Jazz Picante radio show and has a monthly at Radio Oxigenio, Lisbon. Exclusively for RBMA Radio, this set was recorded live at the Broad Casting night at Cargo, London.
