dBridge

Exit Recordings, London

dBridge aka Darren White's first introduction into the music scene was in 1992, when he formed the Sewage Monsters outfit with his older brother Steve Spacek. In the mid-'90s Darren met Jason Maldini and was soon to be working alongside him at Trouble On Vinyl. Whilst experimenting with beats the duo released their first 12" on Renegade Hardware, 'Flash Gordon/Jeep Beats', followed by a bunch of massive anthems creating quite a stir on the scene. In 1998 Darren was one of the four founding members of Bad Company UK, a label based on the philosophy of re-energizing what was becoming an increasingly minimalist musical genre and convey through their music the same spirit and intensity which first drew them to the sound. Their label BC Recordings defined a whole era in drum 'n' bass, and as a production crew the four released on labels auch as Prototype, Virus, Ram, React, Formation just to name a few. Within two years Bad Company UK had cemented their name in the foundations of the genre with the release of their first of several long players, titled 'Inside The Machine', receiving world-wide acclaim and massive media response. From this point Bad Company UK began to snowball into heights of musical notoriety hardly reached by a drum 'n' bass artist before. During this time the foursome insisted on bypassing the path leading to mainstream success, instead opting to fuel the underground. This way of thinking was embodied in the birth of flagship internet forum www.dogsonacid.com, which gave fans and fellow artists alike the opportunity to express opinions, contribute ideas and greatly strengthened d&b's global community, and over the years the web forum has become an important voice of the scene. The year 2003 has seen many major changes within the BC camp and more notably in dBridge's musical direction. He co-produced Spacek's second longplayer 'Vintage High-Tech' on !K7 Records, an album which defined a new generation of British soul music, harnessing the power of today's electronic mediums to create a vintage sound and gaining praise from the likes of Mos Def, Jazzy Jeff and the late Jay Dee. dBridge's latest venture is the fruition of his own imprint Exit Recordings. With a history as varied and colorful as his, who knows what to expect next from dBridge?
