Englishman Jay Scarlett has been a maniac record collector since he was teenager, starting out listening to classic hip hop from the likes of Run DMC or Newcleus and then fell deeply in love with soul. His interest in all things soulful developed into more of a broad spectrum of music from the early '90s, branching out into Chicago house and Detroit technosoul such as Mr. Fingers, Kevin Saunderson or Ten City. He then got deeper into soulful house music which led back around to classic soul sounds and hip hop. In 1995 Jay got involved in pirate (and later internet) radio Pure FM in 1995 and held DJ residencies at the Bass Clef (Blue Note), Rock Café & WKD in Camden, UK. In 2000 Jay stepped into music production, did several remixes and worked with well-known British MC/singer Maxi Jazz. Soon after Jay Scarlett became DJ for the infamous Spacek outfit touring many countries around the world. Presently residing in Munich, Germany, he holds several residencies and an FM radio show called ‘Bassboulevard’ also stretching into the Samurai FM show 'Ampsoul Generation'. Recently Jay released the highly applauded ‘Beat Dimensions Vol.1’ compilation alongside Amsterdam’s Cinnaman. A sequel is about to drop soon. Watch out!
