DJ Milo

The Wild Bunch, NYC

Been there, done that. A sentence that could be the title of DJ Milo's biography. Milo Johnson began DJing in Bristol in 1979 along with a young Nellee Hooper and Daddy G, aka Grant Marshall. Together they formed The Wild Bunch, a unit that played an eclectic mix of new wave, reggae, punk, disco, fusion, hip hop, funk and later house. From there on, The Wild Bunch released two singles on Island Records, coined the term "The Bristol Sound" and while Milo worked with people like Adrian Sherwood or Neneh Cherry, Hooper joined the legendary Soul II Soul outfit. The rest of their Bristol crew went on to form the hyper-successful Massive Attack. Meanwhile, Milo worked in Japan for designers Takeo Kikuchi and Men's Bigi as well as touring with the likes of The Jungle Brothers, Soul II Soul, Kool DJ Red Alert, Tricky and Public Enemy. A move to NYC in 1989 got him in touch with hot stepper Salaam Remi and reinforced his soft spot for house music resulting in the louche Nature Boy releases. Today, Milo is a living legend with collaborators as varied as Nike, BBE and Japanese hipster labels. Music and fashion, are always Milo's passion.
