Perhaps you’ve heard of 'schaffle', the off-kilter sidling brand of minimal techno which a Cologne label named Kompakt virtually invented? If so, you've also no doubt heard of Schauffler, though despite his near-genre-defining remix of Quark, he's long since strode far beyond the borders of that rhythm pattern. Having been a student and employee of one of Germany's greatest techno success stories (Kompakt), he found that with tracks like 'Heroin' and 'Mushroom' his horizons did not become minimal but instead became claustrophobically panoramic like one very long and debauched night in a chandelier-filled karaoke maze. Recently he teamed up with another of Cologne’s favourite sons (Michael Mayer) to form Supermayer: like a pair of Siamese Dr. Frankensteins, injecting your brain with cryogenically preserved techno-minimal-house-pop and more than a few 'smile' genomes. Here Comes Love, indeed.
