Steve Spacek

Spacek, Black Pocket, Sydney

Singer, songwriter and musician Steve Spacek was born in South-East London and grew up as part of the area's strong West Indian community, with its large soundsystem culture. Following an adolescence of absorbing Gospel and big beats alike, Spacek developed his voice, learned the bass and started writing music. At the turn of the century, he broke through the underground with his Soul band, Spacek, which blew up on the strength of songcraft that was remarkably ahead of its time. He's had the honour of being blessed by production by late legend J. Dilla not once (2000, Eve Remix) but twice with 'Dollar', from his solo album 'Spaceshift' in 2005. Steve is currently based down under in Sydney where he practices Wing Chun martial arts as well as pumping out his ruff Black Pocket dubs and plenty of those ethereal vocal lines that have won so many hearts around the world.
