On The Floor! - Live At Front, Hamburg

Klaus Stockhausen

Front, Hamburg

Every city has its own club legend and the one of Hamburg's 'Front' club is important for the rest of Germany as well. Run by Willi Prange and made legendary by the first DJ Klaus Stockhausen, the 'Front' is amongst those places that made house music happen in Germany. Playing five nights a week from the early 1980s on, Stockhausen created a loyal following. While watching his customers from a scuttled DJ booth and serving up everything from proto-house to post-disco on Thorens turntables, the dancers experienced things like acid and techno when those were still dew-fresh. Influenced by the mixture of music and an extravagant gay crowd, the club went on to influence DJs and producers from all over the country, including a very young Boris Dlugosch who became Klaus' handpicked successor as he decided to accept a career in the fashion industry in the early '90s. Anyway, this mix directly from the 'Front' rig is a perfect document of its time, sound and heyday. And the best thing: They could'nt even dance straight!
