Formed in Brooklyn in 2006, Yeasayer work in the fine tradition of New York bands that believe pop music should be equally entertaining and odd. Even more than their contemporaries, core members Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton and Anand Wilder took the experimental collaborations of David Byrne as a starting point for an idiosyncratic sound that focuses on layered, treated and mistreated vocals on top of polyrhythmic grooves and an array of sounds that uses ambient textures, psychedelic guitars rumbling sub basses as if they were meant to be part of the same musical language from the start. Although there are no signs of slowing down, Yeasayer's own Chris Keating has branched out into DJing (among other artforms). Here we caught him spinning some of his favourite tunes with the Electronic Takeover crew at Eiffel Society in New Orleans.
