Souterrain Transmissions, Los Angeles

When Erika M. Anderson left Dakota for Los Angeles, she wasted no time becoming a vital member of the city's music scene. Forming Gowns with Don Buchla's son Ezra (also of The Mae Shi), she became a singular creator of guitar noise, her raw vocals became a match for the beauty and fury of instrumental work. Gowns went through five years of raw emotions and explosive live shows. After the demise of the band, and in an intense time of learning recording and mixing techniques, she recorded an towering 18-minute cover version of Robert Johnson's blues classic 'Kind Hearted Woman' that heralded her emergence as a solo artist, and a debut album that took an intense look at troubled times without backing down into staid melancholia. This set was recorded live at Primavera Club 2011.
