Marky is as close to a national hero in Brazil as it is possible to get without being a footballer. He grew up in the megalopolis of Sao Paulo to the sounds of Brazilian traditional music, jazz and funk, before the acid house explosion and later on the early '90s jungle sound captured his teenage imagination. Winning the 'DJ Of The Year' awards in Brazil back in '95 and '96, and this was still only the beginning of the Brazilian drum 'n' bass scene he now represents worldwide. Since then he has been travelling the world infecting the masses with his good spirit beats, bass and melodies. When UK drum 'n' bass don Bryan Gee visited Sao Paulo and heard some tracks of Marky and fellow Sao Paulo wonderkids Patife and XRS, he selected a few tunes and released the now legendary 'Brasil EP' on V Recordings. Marky became a resident at London's Movement nights and in 2002 he produced 'LK' alongside long-time studio sparring partner XRS, a massive track sampling Jorge Ben and Toquinho. 'LK' became a worldwide chart-breaking hit, even leading to an appearance on Top Of The Pops, cementing Marky's role as a drum 'n' bass superstar. His own imprint Innerground Recordings has become a leading force on the international circuit. Together with XRS he released 'Dia Do Sol', a stunning collaboration with Brazilian Tropicalia agitator Gilberto Gil, as well as the full-length 'In Rotation'. More than an accomplished drum 'n' bass album it reflects how Marky and XRS were propelled into a worldwide limelight just by their love of soulful dance music, while managing to keep a strong cultural identity that refers to Brazil's rich and timeless musical heritage. Besides his production work Marky's status as a DJ grew rapidly over the years, thanks to his extraordinary mixing skills, unique selection of tunes and the sheer energy of his sets. Today Marky is one of the prime ambassadors of the drum 'n' bass scene worldwide.
