With Milton Nascimento, Arthur Verocai or Zé Ramalho and Eumir Deodato as his predecessors, Pazes stands on the shoulders of giants. His first release on Exponential Records draws on the lilting cadences of his home country: Pazes and spaces built on shimmering electronic beatscapes, with Brazilian-inspired vocals floating over the top. Living in the faded architectural utopia of Brasilia, no wonder there’s a certain melancholic modernism to these beats. We caught him live at Club Tempo during the Academy 2011 in Madrid.
