Tom Zé was born in 1936, in Bahia, Brazil. His town got electricity in 1949. And now he’s recognized worldwide as one of the godfathers of the Tropicalia musical movement, creating psychedelic, subversive and inspiring songs that have gone on to influence musicians as diverse as Beck and David Byrne. Alhough he started making music in the late 60s, he has only gotten more prolific, releasing twice as many records in his second two decades as an artist than he did in the first two. Listen to his live show from Circulo de Bellas Artes during the Academy 2011 in Madrid.
