In Shawn Lee's world, Ennio Morricone dances with Esquivel and Serge Gainsbourg as spaghetti western guitars and harmonicas ride fat drum breaks accompanied by vibes, lush strings and piano. Shawn is best known for his signature style moody instrumentals released on a bunch of impressive albums for Cali's Ubiquity imprint. As a multi-instrumentalist and singer Shawn Lee has played and recorded with a diverse range of artists including Coldcut, St. Etienne, Jeff Buckley, The Dust Brothers, Bomb The Bass, Natacha Atlas and Chateau Flight, not to mention solo records for Talkin' Loud, Wall of Sound and BBE. Shawn is also known to collectors as the man behind 'The Ape Breaks' and 'Planet Of The Breaks' series which were sampled by everyone from Guru to The Gorillaz. On his latest outing for Ubiquity he added a handful of full songs featuring the vocal talents of label mates Ohmega Watts and Nino Moschella, while his cinematic instrumental tracks are decorated with vocal textures in a nod to classic producers David Axelrod and Charles Stepney who used choir-like walls of vocal to create their big productions.
