Joey Negro

Z Records, London

Joey Negro is the pseudonym of British DJ, disco evangelist and producer Dave Lee. He began creating his own music in 1988 and founded his legendary and highly influential Republic Records label, introducing the soulful house sound of New Jersey from artists such as Blaze, Paul Simpson or Turntable Orchestra to a wider audience across the UK and Europe. In 1990 he released the first track under his Joey Negro moniker, which catapulted Lee to underground stardom. Since then, Joey Negro has become a sought-after producer and remixer and worked with everyone from Diana Ross to the Pet Shop Boys. Running his Z Records imprint for more than a decade now, Lee has worked under a variety of aliases, including The Sunburst Band, Raven Maize, Doug Willis, Z Factor, Sessomato, Akabu and Mistura. Over the years Dave Lee gained a reputation for being the UK's number one disco connoisseur and has spread the disco gospel across countless radio programmes, magazine articles and a bunch of excellent compilations for labels such as BBE and Soulbrother. Boogie down!
