Growing up in Grenoble, Michel Amato's gateway to electronic music was the EBM scene around groups like Nitzer Ebb or DAF, and though he has taken many a detour since, you will still find these acts in his playlists. Fittingly, his first releases were rather on the hardcore end of techno. When he started to get serious some time later, he took on The Hacker as a name and went for a classic Detroit style, even naming his label Goodlife Records after the Inner City classic. Around the same time he formed a career defining alliance with Caroline Hervé, better known as Miss Kittin, swiftly signing to DJ Hell's Gigolo and gaining worldwide recognition. Caught up in a rush - and the regrettable electroclash label - they decided to halt the project in 2002, not releasing a new album until 2009. This left plenty of time for The Hacker to refine his own singular approach to electro sounds and collaborate with folks like Alexander Robotnick. This set of his was recorded live at Exit Festival 2011.
