By the time The Phantom Band released their first 7" on the aptly named label Trial & Error Recordings they had been through a host of band names, changing them from gig to gig as they honed their musical skills at shows around Scotland. Along the way they cooked up a peculiar variety of indie rock that draws happily from country and krautrock, from psych to acid house - often within just one section of a song. By the time they released their debut album 'Checkmate Savage' on Chemikal Underground they had internalized the stylistic hodgepodge to such an extend that they made it sound like the most relaxed and organic thing to pull off. By the time they released the even more epic sophomore album 'The Wants' in 2010 the sextet had established itself as one of the UK's most exciting bands. Suitably, their selection of favorite tracks reflects the disparate tastes of six people that turns into an enjoyable whole against all odds.
