Zola Jesus was raised in the far reaches of the American mid-west, where she developed the sort of style that is born out of talent and solitary obsession with music. Engulfing herself in operatic singing and avant-garde industrial noise, in gothic sub genres and bubblegum pop she developed a vocal style that sounds equally powerful and forlorn as it sits deep in swirling masses of sound. Releasing on labels across the board, from Troubleman to Sacred Bones, she has maintained a manic pace since the start, with for releases and a hundred shows across the globe in 2010 alone. Along the way she rose from darling of the avant-garde to year end top lists, with us catching her show at Primavera Club 2010 right along the way.
