Diamond D

D.I.T.C., New York City

If there were such a thing as the royal family of hip hop, producer and MC Diamond D would certainly be in the running for the dynasty. His noble touch is seen on countless groundbreaking LPs, including A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory, The Fugees' The Score, and of course his own 1992 debut album under the moniker Diamond And The Psychotic Neurotics, Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop: a true milestone of '90s rap. He made his name as part of New York's beloved D.I.T.C. (Diggin' In The Crates) crew, consisting of veterans of the scene Showbiz & A.G, O.C., Fat Joe, Buckwild, Lord Finesse, and the late Big L. Hailing from the Bronx, Diamond D started out as a DJ for legendary hip hop producer Jazzy Jay in the early 1980s, and then with his rhyme partner Master Rob recorded the album I'm Not Playin' as Ultimate Force. The album included additional production from Q-Tip, Large Professor, Jazzy Jay, amongst others. Diamond D's next three albums were all well-received, establishing him as one of the "best producers on the mic". Especially his inventive production skills lead him to collaborate with some of the biggest names in hip hop, including J Dilla, Busta Rhymes, KRS-One, Nottz, and Brand Nubian. From the '80s 'til now, there is no doubting that Diamond D is vital to your hip hop education! This recording is the first part of his straight 45 set for The Doctor's Orders at Plan B in London.
