Gary Langan

The Art Of Noise, ZTT, London

Gary Langan started his musical career as an engineer at the legendary Sarm Studios in London where he learnt his craft by assisting on some of Queen's classic albums, such as 'A Night At The Opera', working on none other than 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Gary later met Trevor Horn of The Buggles, engineering their first album (containing the huge No. 1 hit 'Video Killed The Radio Star') and continued to work with Horn on projects such as Yes, Dollar, ABC's 'The Lexicon Of Love' and Malcolm McLaren's 'Duck Rock' album. Langan and Horn helped co-find the record label ZTT and also formed avant-garde synthpop band Art of Noise alongside music journalist Paul Morley, programmer JJ Jeczalik and arranger Anne Dudley. This highly innovative group's use of computer sampling and electronics paved the way for many 80's pop bands to come. Despite leaving Art of Noise in 1986, Langan maintained a strong career and has since become one of the UK's most sought after engineer/producers, working with the likes of Public Image Ltd, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Spandau Ballet, T'Pau, Lisa Stansfield and Flowered Up, to name just a few.
