Lee Fields is a bona fide soul survivor. Many lucky vinyl junkies will be aware of his rare 7" singles series and the 'Let's Talk It Over' LP which he released on his own independent labels back in the seventies. These contained classics like 'She's A Lovemaker' and 'The Funky Screw'. At the beginning of his singing career he was already singing with pioneers of funk music such as Kool and the Gang, Sammy Gordon and the Hip-Huggers, and Little Royal. In the eighties when the livelihood of club bands was in decline, Lee took a sabbatical from music but it was never far from his heart. Most recently he has released records on Truth & Soul, Desco and Daptone Records, labels renowned for their hard funk sensibilities. Lee is currently kicking up a storm worldwide with The Expressions, bringing a fresh approach to sweet soul music that a younger audience, who didn't grow up with singers like Sam Cooke, are able to relate to.
