As singer and guitarist for Bloc Party, Kele already had three albums (and a bunch of noteworthy remixes) under his belt when he decided to go solo during a band hiatus in 2009. With Bloc Party he had hit the ground running, their debut 'Silent Alarm' being a benchmark record for wiry post punk and the subsequent remixes proving that they wouldn't settle for a lazily rockist career. Their following albums went on to include more electronic, dance based elements to their approach, so Kele's debut single 'Tenderoni' wasn't the sound of a rock singer trying to buy into a different scene, but a logical step forwards. Production duties on his album 'The Boxer' are shared by XXXchange and Hudson Mohawke who share his eclectic tastes that also show in these Headphone Highlights. Get in the ring!
