Silver Apples

Gifted Children, New York City

'Ahead of their time' is a phrase often used to describe artists but when talking about Silver Apples it's impossible to avoid. Based in New York City, the band are composed of Simeon who plays a homemade synthesizer of his own devising (also named The Simeon, and consisting of an assortment of oscillators, filters and manual controls), and until his death in 2005, drummer Danny Taylor. Between 1968 - 1970 Silver Apples recorded three albums which are now widely regarded as the first rock-oriented albums to utilize electronic techniques and their minimalistic style, with its pulsing, droning rhythms, and Taylor's repetitive, free-form drumming pre-dated not only the experimental electronic music and Krautrock of the 1970s, but the underground dance music and indie rock of the 1990s as well. In the mid nineties a bootleg CD of the first two albums was released and the intense interest in the band prompted Simeon to reform Silver Apples, leading to them recording and performing with many musician friends and admirers. Drummer Danny Taylor sadly passed in 2005 but Simeon continues to write, record and perform as Silver Apples, playing shows and festival dates around the world.
