The Rub, T&A, New York City
Ayres Haxton Jr. has turned out quite the Mississippi success story. DJ Ayres (as he is known by most) is responsible for the creation of The Rub, back in 2002, which remains a staple of New York City nightlife today. Playing a combo of eighties pop, hip-hop, disco, house and the like, it launched DJ Ayres into the consciousness of music lovers not just in New York, but worldwide. The diet of Miami Bass and Delta Blues in his youth coupled with a subsequent insatiable appetite for indie hip-hop mixtapes was obviously what the doctor ordered as Ayres has now seen the decks in over sixty cities the world over and released over twenty remixes. He releases on his own T&A label (with partner Tittsworth), and has also delivered the goods on the Money Studies, GAMM and Scion A/V imprints.
