As Pepepe he offered up truckloads of 8bit space-invader pop. But Carlos Pesina's new solo project as Los Amparito is a whole new kettle of fish & computer chips: with a forthcoming LP full of traditional Mexican sounds in dazed loops, brushed with psychedelic tail-feathers. Busily playing across the Americas, his compositions - as a solo artist, or in conjunction with Guadalajara vocalist Cyan - don't lack any musicality - you might even find yourself singing along to his dreamy post-electronic collages. With remixes done for Animal Collective and Panda Bear, and influences including Russian futurists, the post-modern pop of Beck, and the anarchic madness of Kid 606, it's no surprise Mexican institutions like Revista Marvin are already hip to what Carlos calls Huarache-gaze or Mariachi wave.
