The music of Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points first appeared on most people's radars when Benji B and Gilles Peterson started playing demo versions of his music back in 2008. In February 2009, the first Floating Points record appeared in the shops, the double A-side 7" of 'For You'/'Radiality' on Eglo Records, a new label started by Sam himself alongside Rinse FM's Alexander Nut. A month later the 'Love Me Like This' 12" came out on R2 Records and proceeded to cause mayhem on dancefloors across the UK, Europe and beyond, going on to become one of the defining tracks of the year. The much-anticipated follow up to 'Love Me Like This' arrived in September 2009 in the shape of the 'Vacuum' EP. Three tracks of warm, electronic bliss that blended house and boogie seamlessly, whilst adding something very fresh to the mix. As well as remixing artists such as Four Tet, Sebastien Tellier and Bei Bei & Shaun Lee, Sam has also created the orchestral based Floating Points Ensemble, which includes a full string section as well as Eglo label mate and stunning vocalist, Fatima... and Sam manages to balance all of this with a PHD course in Molecular Genetics. Who says men can't multi-task?
