Formed in Massachusetts in 1979, Mission Of Burma are arguably one of the most important rock bands on the last twenty years. Playing a bracing mix of punk, pop, art rock and avant-garde experimentation, the Boston quartet were an integral part of the scene that took American hardcore into the multi-faceted times of independent rock. In June 1980 they released their debut 7", 'Academy Fight Song' on Rick Harte's Ace of Hearts Label. It fast sold out of its 7,500 copy pressing and the band returned to the studio to record 'Signals, Calls and Marches'. The opener, 'That's When I Reach For My Revolver', fast became the band's calling card. The band's debut long-player 'VS' then appeared: a dozen furious tracks, met with rave reviews. Miller's unfortunate relationship with tinnitus meant the band waved farewell with a tour and disbanded. In 1985 Ace of Hearts released 'The Horrible Truth About Burma' and in 2002 they decided to stage a pair of reunion shows, which multiplied through popular demand. They returned to the studio several years later and a plethora of releases followed, the latest being 2009's 'The Sound the Speed the Light'.
