Chrome Hoof must be any hyphen-lover's favorite band out there, calling for descriptions like acid-prog-death-funk or psychedelic-disco-funk-doom-with-woodwinds-and-strings as they are. But that wouldn't matter much outside discussions of typographic details if they weren't a band whose actual sound makes you forget all those hyphens in a second, introducing their decidedly futuristic music and outlandish stage shows so self assured that any accusations of style over content disappear into the void. In fact, their music is thankfully free of any urge to prove how clever they are, offering instead a musical experience that provides pure fun in wholly unexpected ways. To this end, brothers Milo Smee and Leo Smee (of Cathedral fame), who started the project at the tail end of the nineties, have assembled a twelve piece ensemble that mixes classically trained musicians with avant-metal guitarists and a singer who is as much from outer space as she is from Hackney, Lola Olafisoye of Spektrum. Dark future disco at Primavera 2010!
