Dayve Hawke, the man behind the genius that is Memory Tapes, is a quietly spoken individual, who's image has until fairly recently been a baffling affair. His early releases were free and made under the names Memory Cassette and Weird Tapes. After his initial success, with rave reviews on loads of US blogs, he secured himself a multitude of remix opportunities from the likes of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Peter, Bjorn and John to Phoenix and Britney Spears. Memory Cassette and Weird Tapes were put firmly in the past, but Memory Tapes lives on, a forged combination of the two haunting identities. He started work on 'Seek Magic', from which The Horrors remixed the first single 'Bicycle'. Anticipation for the album grew alongside his bourgeoning reputation and finally 'Seek Magic' was released to the hungry masses to astronomical praise. Dayve's mysterious persona has been revealed over time too and the speculative girl band theories disbanded, to reveal a very shy but gentle, stay-at-home-recording-at-night Dad, with a truly excellent ear, examples of which are right here.
