Centred around Vini Reilly, the original five piece Durutti Column recorded two tracks for FAC-S A Factory Sample, the first ever music release on Factory Records. The Column almost ended before it began however, with some altercations about the recording and Vini leaving, before thankfully returning to continue to create the bands critical back catalogue. To this day, the Durutti Column is still essentially Vini, though Drummer Bruce (ex-Alberto Y Trios Lost Paranoias) has been with the band since their seminal album LC. A succession of other guests have littered the line-up over the years including John Metcalf, Tim Kellett and Keir Stewart. Always at the forefront of technology thanks to Factory's innovative (but sometimes misguided) policies, the Durutti Column released the first cd-only pop album Domo Arigato, recorded live in Tokyo and from then on there was no stopping them. More recently, they released 'Heaven Sent' for Tony Wilson's unfortunately short-lived F4 Records in 2004. Then their most recent album to date was a seventy minute tribute to Tony Wilson himself, a personal and heart warming musical tribute.
