These shuddering drums simply don't leave room for half-stepping. Cohoba takes influences from electronica, dubstep, jazz and soul and whirls them up in a blender, ready for vocals to float on top of. He now commands a DJ residency at Santo Domingo's La Espiral, when not playing to 8,000 people to save Los Haitises national park or working with low-riding electro hip hop duo Botanico. Jorge Read may have only been making tracks since '07 but he's undisputedly on top of his game with this mix straight from the throbbing hallways of RBMA 2010.
