Mark Broom

Pure Plastic, King Of The Snakes, London

Since the early '90s, East London born Mark Broom has always been a name that is synonymous with the UK electronic music scene. He has a myriad of production credits to his name having worked with labels such as Mo Wax, Warp, R&S, Soma, Talkin' Loud, I-fach, Plink Plonk, GPR, Ferox and most recently Bpitch Control amongst others. It all started in the summer of 1989. Stumbling across the delights of the emerging sounds of Chicago and acid house on a vacation in Tenerife young Mark bought a pair of turntables. A regular customer at London's legendary Fat Cat record store, he found himself at the epicentre of a burgeoning scene. In '92 he met a certain Pete Baby Ford and soon after played at his new club night, Nude. He was introduced to Ed Handley and Andy Turner from the infamous Black Dog productions, a meeting which brought about the foundations of a solid studio partnership, with the trio putting together a string of releases for the seminal General Productions Records. Soon after Mark was approached by Dave Hill about making some music together. From there, a longstanding partnership was spawned with the founding of Pure Plastic. After a string of impressive 12"s on his own imprint it was Mark's LP 'Angie Is A Shoplifter' in 1996 which truly cemented his reputation. Further notable success was scored with the his 'Indoor Culture' album under the guise of Rue East alongside Dave Hill. As a DJ Mark has played everywhere from Fabric to Fuse and some of the best festivals around. With his King Of The Snakes label signed to Ellen Alliens Bpitch Control, partnering with old co-hort Chris Baker as King Pin Cartel, and a band project called 5 Mic Cluster, Mark keeps the fires burning. With his superb 'Menergy Mix Up' of '80s b-boy electro, hi-NRG and a slice of bonafide acid house, Mark definitely brings back some memories. Dig this!
