King Britt

Scuba, Sylk 130, FiveSixMedia, Philadelphia

King Britt's talent easily supersedes the boundaries of genre, time and space. This Philadelphia native likes to express his creations through deep house, hip hop, broken beat, nu jazz and funk and has been honing his DJ and production since he began his DJ tenure in 1992. As the wax poet for the Grammy award winning Digable Planets, he was touring the globe and after that continued to develop his love of dance music culture by making numerous appearances in house music clubs all over the world. 1994 witnessed the birth of King's Sylk 130 collective. This ensemble of Philadelphia musicians and performers, including Ursula Rucker, Alma Horton and Alison Crockett, created a tribute to the legendary Philly of the '70s and released the full length album 'When The Funk Hits The Fan' via Ovum/Sony. In 2003, as a return to his love for hip hop, King released 'Adventures In Lo-Fi', an LP of original tracks for the highly acclaimed BBE Records 'Beat Generation' series. As a remixer, King has flipped and funked everyone from Macy Gray and Tori Amos to Yoko Ono and Femi Kuti and released countless records under monikers like Scuba, The Nova Dream Sequence, Oba Funke and even runs his own multimedia, studio and marketing corporation called FiveSixMedia. It's good to be a king.
