In many ways the artistic development of Data can be seen as typical for his generation - growing up with hip hop, he soon developed a love for sweeping melodies, big arpeggios, synthetic funk and catchy pop hooks that will fill up the dancefloor. Of course, a certain hip hop attitude can still be felt in his tracks, but his first album, 'Skywriter', is an epic journey through seventies disco and eighties synths informed by a very modern sense of anything goes: He's just as likely to take his cues from Stuart Price or Outkast as he is to sneak some Ryuichi Sakamoto into one of his DJ sets. No wonder that singers like Sebastien Grainger or Benjamin Diamond didn't have to think twice about lending their voices to his debut offering.
