As well as having accompanied the greatest of the greats, from James Brown to Chaka Khan via Sun Ra and Miles Davis, Steve Reid has also remained one of the true independent innovators. Not only have his Mustevic released LPs 'Nova' and 'Rhythmatism' long been essentials for the beat purveyor, but more recently his burgeoning professional relationship with Four Tet's Kieran Hebden has inspired a whole new generation of fans. He began playing professionally at sixteen and recorded his first record with Martha and the Vandella's on Motown the very next year, working in the Apollo Theatre house band under the direction of Quincy Jones. Then after college he spent three years in Africa, performing with an incredible array of talented African bands including Guy Warren and Fela Ransome Kuti and eventually came back to the US and Europe to play the drums with some more of the biggest names of our time. No surprise then that he is never short of a good story, as you are about to find out in his Fireside Chat.
