Starting out in the late eighties/early nineties in Trondheim, Norway, Motorpsycho first hit their stride with their album 'Demon Box' back in 1993. Drawing equally on their metal past, their love of Sonic Youth and strange tunings, all kinds of Jazz and the electronic experiments of their associated member deathprod. (who would go on to work for the band over the years while putting Trondheim on the map for open minded Jazz fans all over the world with the band supersilent) it was a massive success in Norway and across Europe and stands as one of the classic records of the time. Hinting at adventures to come they followed it up with a west-coast country album that proved them to be closer to Gram Parsons than to many hard rocking contemporaries. Adhering to a strict rehearsal, recording and touring schedule they went on to play countless shows throughout the nineties, releasing increasingly adventurous records along the way. Along they way they've moved effortlessly from heavy Stooges riffs to proggy ballads like 'Vortex Surfer' (played 24 hours, nonstop, on Norwegian radio station P3, new year's eve 1999) to jazz tinged pop along the way. After a short breather when they lost their long standing drummer Hakon Gebhardt in 2005 they are back in full force these days, releasing their third record in as many years in January 2010. For this Fireside Chat guitarist Hans Magnus 'Snah' Ryan and new drummer Kenneth Kapstadt sat down to talk about tracks from throughout their career. Judging by their enthusiasm we can expect them to go on for another many years...
