Formed in 1998 by Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson, Sunn O))) have been creating music that transcends its roots in both dark metal and experimental music ever since. Known in equal measure for the elaborate stagecraft, skull crushing volume and, dare we say it, joyful sense of adventure they have found success outside any genre classifications. Whether they perform as a two piece backed by stacks and stacks of amplifiers, in medieval Norwegian cathedrals with massive organs joining in the thunder or backed by a Viennese womens choir and a string section on their latest record, 'Monoliths & Dimensions', theirs is a journey deep into the heart of sonics, chords stretched out in glacial movement until every scraping noise in the background sounds massive and important. With Attila Csihar of Norwegian Black Metal giants Mayhem now a more involved band member than ever before, it looks like there's no stopping this band on their journey through the furthest fringes of music and sound.
