Ms Murphy's life took a turn one day at a party, when she took a liking to producer Mark Brydon and introduced herself by saying "Do you like my tight sweater? See how it fits my body". Her singing experience thus far had been limited to the shower and she had no aspirations of singing professionally. However the creative (and romantic) sparks flew between Mark and Roisin and Moloko was born. The pair combined dance and funk elements in a haphazard and quirky way and should never have been lumped in to the dreaded 'trip-hop' tag with peers Portishead and Massive Attack. For a start, their music always had a very upfront sense of humour, and topped with Roisin's incredible dress-sense, stage presence and straight sass, they were always a very unique proposition. After four successful albums, the pair inevitably went their separate ways and Roisin launched her solo career with forward-thinking electronic producer Matthew Herbert, who had several years previously worked on Moloko's 'Sing It Back'. 2005's 'Ruby Blue' was released to the masses, followed by 'Overpowered', which saw her collaborating with Seiji of Bugz In The Attic amongst numerous others. On the verge of another wave of new releases, we were fortunate enough to catch a heavily pregnant, but still, gorgeous, poised and unfazed Roisin for a chat by her North London Fireside...
