No Age

Sub Pop, Los Angeles

No Age: the name alone suggests multiple meanings and possible interpretations - timeless, ageless, anonymous, free from restriction, something positive from something negative. Likewise, the Los Angeles duo consisting of drummer / vocalist Dean Spunt and guitarist Randy Randall is many things at once at the same time as embracing their minimalism. No Age rose from the ashes of their previous band, the hardcore punk group Wives and issued a slew of singles on a variety of indie labels in 2007, resulting in the tellingly cohesive compendium, 'Weirdo Rippers' on Fat Cat Records later that year. That widely heralded release set the stage for debut album 'Nouns' on Subpop. No Age has also been listed as a mainstay of The Smell (the punk/experimental venue in Downtown LA) along with Health, Mika Miko, and Silver Daggers. Its strong ties with the Los Angeles underground community centered around the Smell and their DIY ethic is a throwback to the 1980s hardcore and punk underground, which is displayed through on much of the group's music and indeed this, their Headphone Highlights.
