The men behind Zero 7, Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker, launched their careers in the music industry as tea boys at a London recording studio. They must have been pretty good engineers too, though, as shortly thereafter both were in the thick of the action, emerging from behind the scenes with a remix of Radiohead's 'Climbing Up Walls'. This was followed by remixes of a diverse bunch of success stories including Lenny Kravitz, Lambchop and Terry Callier, all of which demonstrated a flare for warmth and arrangement that never once belied the simplicity of their bedroom production set-up. In 1999, Zero 7 released their first EP of own material, simply titled EP. Only a handful of copies were made and they sold out in a matter of days, a feat that was repeated with their second release, EP 2. Their first full-length album, 'Simple Things', came out amid much salivating from the media in mid-2001, this was followed by their sophomore effort in 2004 and then the Grammy-nominated 'Garden'. Their latest 'Yeah Ghost' is possibly their most eclectic opus to date and we had the chance to talk to them about that and everything that came before it, at London's Roundhouse.
