Stathis Kalatzis, better known as Mr. Statik grew up in the small greek town of Volos. When starting out as a DJ circa 1990 he was deeply influenced by the rising hardcore and breakbeat movement. After moving to Athens to study at Panteion University he developed a deeper interest in the sound called techno, which led to his infamous Improvized events - a mobile party with his buddy DJ Chevy aiming to bring a fresh and diverse sound into the greek techno scene. Mr. Statik was a participant at the Red Bull Music Academy in Cape Town in 2003 and in the same year formed his Mud Max project alongside his production partner Motek. Their first outings on labels like Balkon and Ware caused quite a stir, and laid the foundations for Stathis' later releases on labels like Karloff and as part of Berlin's BPitch Control empire.
