Chicha Libre is a musical cebiche served with French and American instrumentalists based in New York, playing Peruvian vintage 70s Cumbias and Chichas. Raw as fish marinated in lime juice, this sound pays a crude homage to classical composers like Vivaldi, Ravel or Beethoven, always twisting them with a Tropic-Andian flavour. For this PanameriKan issue, hybrid patterns take over the Academy: the influence of African, Incan and Spanish music inherent to the Peruvian sounds fuses with band leader Olivier Conan's Western musical education. Here, he will introduce us to a selection of rainforest jewels -released on his Barbes label-, that honor the greatest names of the Peruvian-Amazonian scene.
