There might be some trombone players in Vienna who still don't know that the friendly American who taught them was the same guy who helped Diplo get some bass into his releases when he was still getting his act together. It may have been growing up in both New York and Florida that gave Michna his unique talent and blending the urban and the tropical, but where ever it comes from, he has been making use of it since his youth: playing trombone in a band on the NYC bar circuit (that includes legendary dens like CBGB's) and later founded the Secret Frequency Crew in Miami. It was that crew's 'Miami Exes' 12" that put Michna on the map (and got Diplo's attention). Since then there's been no looking back, as he went on to produce an album for Bonde Do Role and do the single official remix for the relusive American songwriter Jandek, all while producing his solo debut for Ghostly. Titled 'Magic Monday' swings from gleeful summer hits like 'Triple Chrome Dipped' to more relaxed funk. It takes a deep love for and understanding of music to come up with this much sense for details (and trombone arrangements). But take a swift look at the tracklist of these Headphone Highlights and you will get an idea of where it all comes from.
