It's tempting to think that there is a warm, fuzzy and sunny side to DJ Day's music when you know he was born in Palm Springs, grew up in Southern California and practically lives in the desert. Be that as it may, sunny grooves like his don't just make themselves, no matter how Californian you may be. And so it should be noted that he spent years cutting his teeth in the LA Underground, alongside friends like Aloe Blacc and Exile, and made a consciously decided to not just focus on his considerable talents as a scratching and juggling DJ when making tracks, but get right down with it on his MPC and Fender Rhodes. The title of his 'Got To Get It Right' EP neatly sums up his approach and, as fans like Jeff Mao and Gilles Peterson would testify, he continues to live up to it, whether he is making tracks or spinning records.
