You may know producer Joshua ‘Hervé’ Harvey as one half of his Sinden collaboration The Count and Monte Cristal. Or perhaps you know him from his work as Action Man, Dead Soul Brothers or Voodoo Chilli or his supergroup Machines Don’t Care. You may also know him as a remixer nonpareil, re-jigging everyone from Bloc Party through to Mark Ronson, and The Prodigy. However you know him though, you will probably agree that he has had a devastating effect on dance-floors the world over. Hervé discovered music in his early to mid teens, built himself his own home studio and after a few years in a band he met Dave “Switch” Taylor who released his first solo EP on his label Dubsided. This was followed by several releases from The Count and Monte Cristal on Domino Records, most notably the electro and booty bass fusion of “Beeper”. His most recent output has been under the name Young Lovers, which sees Herve turn his attention away from the dance-floor with a dark, jazz-inflected and ever so twitchy, take on ‘down tempo’. For this Headphone Highlights, Hervé talks us through a diverse collection of tracks that inspired and influenced him in his driven career so far.
