Brooklyn-based David Lonsgstreth has been putting out records under the moniker Dirty Projectors since 2003. Mutating it’s line-up throughout, the Dirty Projectors allows Longstreth to experiment with a broad palette of experimental sounds and seen him musically reappraise the work of Black Flag and Don Henley – the latter taking the form of a rock opera no less. In the words of Battles’ Tyondai Braxton, David “forged his own path with authority and an inexhaustible urgency” and has arrived in 2009 on a high. His collaboration with David Byrne ‘Knotty Pine’ piqued the interest of a whole new audience who will now get to hear Longstreth’s recordings courtesy of his new label Domino. This Dirty Projectors Headphone Highlights reveals some surprisingly ‘pop’ influences as well as some obscure favourites – some of which we (unfortunately) simply could not track down…
