Louie Vega

MAW, Vega Rec., NYC

The man they used to call "little", Louie Vega is one of dance music's most prominent figures. Steadily bouncing between genres, Vega is almost impossible to categorize. From his days in mid-'80s New York as a Latin freestyle DJ to his love for the music of the Paradise Garage and back to nitty gritty house beats. They are as much his playground as projects like Nuyorican Soul, where he helped to revitalize people like George Benson, Roy Ayers or Tito Puente. Together with Kenny Dope, Louie formed the larger-than-life Masters At Work duo and remixed himself through barricades of pop and r 'n' b artists - much to their success. Their 'Nervous Track', for instance, is still one of the blueprints for all things broken beat. Nowadays, Louie takes care of his Elements Of Life project that fuses his Latin and Afro roots as well as his label Vega Records that released a bunch of straighter house tunes from the likes of Mr. V and his peers. Of course, he is still teaming up with Kenny Dope under their MAW moniker.
