Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Rollie Pemberton began rapping at 13, and following high school he briefly attended journalism school, dropping out soon afterward to concentrate on music. He released the underground mix tape Cadence Weapon is the Black Hand in 2005, before signing with Upper Class / Anti Epitaph in Canada and the states and Big Dada in Europe. The son of a pioneering Canadian radio jock, it was little surprise that Rollie was able to record this interview for us in his own home studio whilst we gave him only the most subtle of prompts from the other side of the world! This Headphone Highlights features a few cuts from his most recent mix-tape but also gives an insight into the eclectic spirit of the Cadence Weapon musical palette
